What Is the Reasonableness Standard? Q&A with Cassandra
What does it actually mean to select a motor carrier reasonably?
This webinar will explain how the CAVRA Standard defines reasonable carrier selection for brokers, shippers, insurers, attorneys, carriers, and investors. Cassandra Gaines will address why broad instructions such as “vet carriers and document everything” are insufficient and identify the practical policies, decision rules, escalation procedures, identity controls, and documentation practices that make a carrier selection process defensible.
The session will cover:
• Key important principles of the CAVRA Standard
• The difference between minimum eligibility and reasonable selection
• How safety, identity, fraud, insurance, authority, and operating history should be evaluated
• When heightened review, mitigation, or management approval is appropriate
• How to handle new carriers, carriers with limited inspection data, and other elevated risk situations
• What meaningful documentation should include
• Common questions about exceptions, monitoring, and operational implementation
The webinar will conclude with an open question and answer session. Attendees are encouraged to submit questions in advance (here when registering) about carrier vetting policies, operational practices, insurance requirements, litigation exposure, and implementation of the CAVRA Standard.
